Dentistry

A dog or cat teeth cleaning at our hospital is much more than just removing tartar from the teeth. Our goal is to restore your pet’s mouth to its normal, fresh, healthy state. Having your pet’s teeth professionally cleaned is the single most important medical treatment you can give that will result in long-term health. We are passionate about veterinary dentistry. Studies show periodontal disease results in significant injury to a dog or cat’s liver and kidneys. No other organ system is more important than the oral cavity.

At South Forsyth Animal Hospital, we are serious about keeping your pet’s teeth as healthy as possible. Each teeth cleaning performed in our hospital includes the following steps:

  1. A General Exam
  2. An Oral Exam
  3. Pre-operative organ testing, based on age
  4. Every patient receives and IV Catheter and fluids
  5. We use Propofol anesthesia and every patient is intubated and monitored in-depth.
  6. We use only Registered Veterinary Nurses.

Each dentistry involves:

  1. Calculus removal from the crown through sub-gingival scaling
  2. Root planning
  3. Curettage where indicated
  4. Teeth Polishing
  5. Irrigation of Periodontal pockets with chlorhexidine solution
  6. Fluoride treatment
  7. Dental charting
  8. And Therapy, if indicated
  9. Home care instructions on oral hygiene – Our dental technician will meet with you after the teeth cleaning to review teeth brushing or other custom-designed oral hygiene.

Dentistry is a vital part of your pet’s health care. Please do not hesitate to ask us questions!
